#1:Carhartt mens Rain Defender® Loose Fit Heavyweight Full-zip Sweatshirt
Great jacket, size down
This jacket is nice and cozy for a cold day, I live in California and I would imagine the most I would need to do is layer a light hoodie under it. I would say size down, I heard that Carhartt designed this jacket to be the outer part of multiple layers, so they made it larger. I'm roughly 6 feet tall, wear a 38R for suit jackets, and usually wear size medium/large for clothing. I ordered a size small for this jacket and it fits perfectly on me, not too big not too small. The waist part of the jacket hugs you pretty tight, which I believe is to keep insulation. It doesn't look funky, but it definitely is something you will notice when you first put on the jacket. I find that I'm constantly adjusting the jacket because it slightly rides up when I'm walking because of how tight the bottom is. This obviously isn't a problem when you wear the jacket unzipped. There is a mini hidden pocket inside of the right pocket on the jacket, which is the perfect size to fit an iPhone (non max model) inside of it. The material on this jacket definitely feels high quality.
Worth the Money
This is the best sweatshirt I have ever owned and its currently my favorite item of clothing. It fits perfectly. It's heavy without being cumbersome. It breathes wonderfully (a feature that isn't hyped up in the description but is definitely appreciated) and it is actually very water resistant (not waterproof, but then...it's a sweatshirt so not sure why would expect that anyway). It is loose without being bulky. Would easily fit under a jacket. It's tough and designed for people who work for a living. I sit at a desk and still love it.
I'm not a huge fan of labels and the Carhartt label placement is aesthetically not great, but a few seconds with an exacto knife and I've got a sweatshirt that I plan on wearing for a good portion of the rest of my life. Yes its expensive, but you get quality with the price. The only other complaint I have is that the inner lining flakes off in little black pieces of lint, but a single washing solved this. It's not a flaw so much as an aspect of the design and manufacturing of the product. Wash it in cold water and let it hang dry. After that...no little fuzzballs over your shirts.
Buy what works, ignore the others
As a farmer in a northern tier state, you just buy what works. Carhartt works, always has and probably always will. I'm not going to waste my time and money trying to figure out what others do. If you're going for style and you drive a tractor, you're golden, if you don't...then yeah, maybe not. This hoodie ticks all of the boxes, warmth, build and fit. It's imperative you layer up here in the winters, you have to size accordingly. Yes, Carhartt clothing does tend to run a little big, but I don't wear skinny jeans and stand around in a coffee shop discussing crypto currency.
RAIN DEFENDER HOODED SWEATSHIRT
Great sweatshirt, worth the price. Very warm and comfy. I usually wear an XL, but I got a large and it fits perfect. Would definitely buy again.
My new favorite hoodie
This thing is bad ass quality wise. It's warm & soft & fits good. It's my new favorite thing. The color looks awesome. Has a little pocket inside the pocket on the right hand side. I keep my lighter in there, fits perfectly. Cool sweater but it's not cheap lol
Awesome
I didn't like how it took a extra day buttt well worth it awesome feel warm and water resistant word ??????
water repellent and warm
I got this hoodie because I wanted a durable zip up hoodie that was warm enough to wear on cold days. This hoodie is nice and does meet these qualifications for me, its also more rain repellent than I thought it’d be. Complaints i have are that the hood isn’t that deep and doesn’t want to stay on my head especially when its windy, and the waist band is a little too tight for my liking and causes a bulge, though it does stop wind from getting in at the bottom of the hoodie. Good hoodie for layering too since it’s pretty loose. If you’re a smaller guy like myself you’ll want to get a small, anything bigger would be huge, even the small is a little big on me leaving me with plenty of room around the arms and chest, and the Length is long enough to cover my butt. Overall I’m satisfied with this hoodie and I’m sure it’ll holdup for a long time.
Great for wet and windy weather
My Dad and I both bought these in a panic for a trip to Amsterdam when it became obvious that the weather was going to be miserable, and hoped that they would do the job. The weather was wet, windy and cold all week. These worked great! They were warm in 35-40 degree weather with a 20 mph wind. The rain just beaded up on them and rolled off. I was very impressed. They look indestructible and well made.
Well-made, quality fabric & durable metal zipper makes this a cost-effective purchase.
I’m a seamstress, and I know what features my husband likes. I know how often he wears his sweatshirts and for the number of years
(yes, YEARS!!), he will wear this sort of garment, I was thrilled to find this sweatshirt! I had been researching for some time, and I was specifically looking for one with a metal heavy-duty zipper because that had been the primary problem with his previous sweatshirts with nylon/plastic zippers even though they were advertised as “heavy-duty”. This is a GREAT sweatshirt and worth every penny!
warm and dry
One of the biggest mistakes people commonly make is focusing on climate and forgetting about weather. South Texas and Florida are hot right? WRONG! Just as New York and Chicago see deadly heat waves every year, we see multiple nights of near freezing and rain every winter. This jacket is warn enough to deal with those awkward days, yet not so oversized that it goes unused most of the season. It really is the perfect jacket for those of us whom often forget about winter.
Best work hoodie made
The Carhartt Rain Defender Hoodie is the best work hoodie made today. It fits perfectly and holds up very well. I have one for every day of the week, which should last me years. The best change in the altered Paxton hoodie is the hood is a little bigger which covers your head much better. The only downside is I believe they are using the same drawstrings for the hood so they are smaller than they should be. You need to tie them in knots to avoid them receding back into the hood when you wash it. This is accurate with the grey and black hoodies. I have 2 new navy ones and they seem to be a little longer.
